Zola and Buddha Bar to Close?

Say it ain’t so! Rumor has it that Zola (800 F Street NW) in the Penn Quarter will close its doors this summer on June 30. That’s unfortunate and it’s a unique place to dine right in the center of it all. It’s a great place to go for cocktails right after work. My favorite was their Zola Sangria, pictured above, and their sliders for only $1.50. For under $2, you could get delicious bites such as the lamb meatball slider, steak and cheese slider and pulled BBQ pork. Ugh!

Also, Buddha Bar unceremoniously shut its doors, even locking some of the employees out! One former employee wrote on his blog:

Okay, it’s Monday and you are all set for work. You go through all the steps of your morning routine. Breakfast, coffee, metro, parking, parking ticket, stop by for another coffee, and then it happens. The unexpected has walked up and slapped you directly in the face. You arrive to work only to find out it’s locked and you have no key. No, you didn’t leave it at home. You never had a key. It’s locked for good! It all starts to sink in. You are out of a job and all the other employees still making their way to work are about to find out!

Ouch! While Buddha Bar was one of my favorite places for cocktails (especially that great lounge space with oversized couches) and that yummy rock shrimp tempura, if management shuddered its doors with not so much as a warning to its employees then good riddance. How rude!
